RRCKEN
Lenana is named after one of the three peaks of Mount Kenya. Coffee is an important product for Kenya, representing a third of the country’s export earnings, and one half of its total agricultural production. Coffee cultivation began in Kenya around 1900 when Arabica coffee brought from Ethiopia was planted near Nairobi by Christian missionaries. From an initial plantation of about 250 hectares, the industry has grown considerably and an estimated 160,000 hectares are now devoted to coffee. Coffee growers in Kenya range from small farmer cooperatives to large plantations. For many Swahili and English-speaking Bantus, coffee culture is a way of life. Since the country gained independence in 1963, Kenyans have focused their efforts towards producing high quality coffee and cultivation is 99% Arabica. Quality conscious workers pick fully ripe cherries through the selective picking process, often passing through the farms seven times or more. This coffee is full of body that evens out the bright acidity leading to a finish of Ruby Red grapefruit.
