This 100% Bourbon coffee is grown in the Gikongoro region, located in southwest Rwanda, at an altitude between 1675 and 1850 meters. The Bufcafe washing station is owned and operated by a woman named Epiphanie Mukashyaka. My close friend and mentor, Peter Giuliano of Counter Culture Coffee, has invested a lot of time and expertise training professional cuppers in this once ravaged country. The results are some fascinating fermentation experiments and some incredible coffees. It seems that coffee is quickly becoming an economic stabilizer in a region that was not along ago one of the poorest in the world. This coffee is packed with a floral aroma and rich, but mellow body with hints of sweet citrus that are both subtle and refined.
